Dinosaur Hand to Hand? Empty Dinosaur Hand to Hand?

You are in a deep jungle, armed only with your knife. You see a shadow coing towards you. Your adrenaline level starts rising and your heart beats faster.

Vote in the poll to choose what the shadow is.

Ankylosaurus. With any luck, it was a clumsy runner and wouldn't be able to keep up with me in the deep jungle.

Troodon, it would be like fighting a turkey with teeth.

Lol, I don't care to battle even a turkey, so I went with one I could run from instead. Welcome back, Tooth, btw.

I wouldn't really want to fight a turkey either but if I had to fight and running was not an option I would choose troodon. If running was an option than yeah...ankylosaurus; just run between a narrow stand of trees.

True, velociraptor is smaller but I imagine it being a more predatory animal than troodon; like a ground dwelling eagle. The troodon I see as more omnivorous with behavior similar to something like a turkey. Maybe this is due to the Jurassic Park stigma or the "fighting dinosaurs" fossil but I just see velociraptor despite its size as something tougher to beat.

Troodon is typically depicted, thanks to a famous scientist, as an intelligent dinosaur capable of sentience upon added evolution and is usually therefore depicted as a more civil dinosaur. That's what makes it more somber in my mind. And yes, Jurassic Park did its best to freak us all out about velociraptors.

I know Velo was small, I'm not one of those paleo-nubs that mistakes it for Deinonochys

but troodon was larger. it had a better chance of killing you before you could hit it. it was also somewhat sentient. atleast more so that most similer dinosaurs.

Larger dinosaurs should mean a bigger and easier target correct? Anyway, while smart for it's day I wouldn't call troodon sentient. Their intelligence was no greater than your average modern bird.

Ha, no, I wouldn't either. I was just pointing to a famous theory provided by a scientist who did a reconstruction of what Troodon would have been like today had it not gone extinct-- he imagined it would be a sentient reptilian humanoid today, and chose it because he believed it would have been the most intelligent dinosaur.

Oh yes, Dale Russell's "Dinosauroid". Quite laughable. My comment wasen't directed towards you though, I was referring to what Titano said.

you do realize the troodon had the largest brain to body size ratio of any know dinosaur right? i'd say it was pretty damn smart.

From what I understand, intelligence is usually better measured by the number of deep folds in the brain.

Yeah I realize that. Do you realize that most dinosaurs had small brains compared to their body sizes? It doesn't take much for troodon to be smarter than other dinosaurs. Troodon's brain size to body ratio is similar to your average bird.

I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY DINOSAURS WERE DUMB WITH SMALLER BRAINS! Look at a freaking parrot, or a pig, or a dog. Animals with small brain sizes comparative to their body, are pretty effin smart.

actualy, it's brain to body size ratio is closer to that of a dog or a cat. they were HIGHLY intelligent animals that were probobly capable of advance planning, and possibly bordoring on sapience.
