Alright, as of this round, there is a 10 point penalty for losing five points, upon which the puzzlemaster gains 15 points (provided no apparently active guessers are around) and the person who got killed gets added to the trampleboard.

Just to clarify, if you guess something like "XYZ" and there is no Y and that's your last hit, the X counts, but the Z doesn't. Hope that makes sense.

And sorry, not, I'm not quite certain I understand. So, if I get the next one wrong, does that mean the points get docked and the puzzle is over? Or, does that mean I get docked the points but can keep guessing, or....?

Basically, if you get your fifth miss, you're done guessing and you lose points. The 10/15 point penalty/bonus I came up with last night sound a bit extreme, so 5 point penalty and bonus is the new rule if you're fine with that.

If you guessed a bunch of letters at once, then any of them guessed after the killer letter don't count and won't be uncovered. Since you and I are the only folks playing at the moment, I'd go ahead and reveal the puzzle and collect my bonus points for no one solving it.
